Reducing methane gas is the fastest way to address climate change in the short term.

What is the Global Methane Pledge?

In 2021, over 100 countries pledged to take actions to reduce global methane emissions by at least 30% by 2030, compared to their 2020 levels. This commitment, known as the “Global Methane Pledge”, aims to avoid a warming of more than 2 °C by 2050. With the objective of contributing to this goal, the “Recycle Organics Latin America and Caribbean” program was born, financed by the Global Methane Hub (GMH) and Environment and Climate Change Canada ECCC implemented by the Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) and ImplementaSur.
This program will benefit six Latin American countries: Uruguay, Costa Rica, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Peru and Chile.

What is our goal?
What is our goal?

This program aims to accelerate the implementation of methane mitigation projects in the waste sector and create enabling conditions for a sustained expansion of organic waste management technologies that bring significant environmental, economic and social benefits.

We also seek to create a community of practice in the region, raise awareness of concrete actions that can reduce methane emissions, and build capacity in Latin America and the Caribbean.

We promote the reduction of methane gas

We provide technical support for the implementation of waste management projects such as home or industrial-scale composting, biogas plants and landfill gas capture to energy projects.

Let’s talk to make your organization part of the Recycle Organics LAC network.

Resources

Basic Concepts

We educate through action. We promote the integration and dissemination of the organic waste management process to citizens and corporations through a variety of different methods and activities.

Composting Guide

We provide guidelines on how to implement municipal composting projects that help prevent harmful methane gas emissions from being released into the atmosphere.

Recycle Organics Workshops and Seminars

In order to streamline actions to accelerate the reduction of GHG emissions in the waste sector, we hold seminars to inform and empower citizens, governments and other stakeholders to participate in organic waste management.

Educational Material

With the goal of raising awareness and sharing regional best practices, we share materials created during the implementation of the original Reciclo Organicos Chile, which this program grew out of.

Household Emissions

This calculator is designed to help you calculate the GHG emissions avoided by recycling organic waste in your home through composting or vermicomposting.

Working together to reduce methane emissions from the waste sector
The CCAP and ImplementaSur team have decades of experience in organic waste management, policy change, climate finance and technical assistance for project implementation.
