1st Regional Organic Recycling Workshop LAC
From March 21-23, the 1st Regional Organic Recycling Workshop for Latin America and the Caribbean was held in Santiago, Chile: "30% methane reductions by 2030: How do we achieve this for the waste sector?"
The workshop aimed to continue the motivation arising from the Global Methane Commitment, convening senior government officials, climate finance experts and private sector representatives to accelerate the implementation of policies and projects to achieve methane emission reductions in the waste sector.
This event was organized by the Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) and ImplementaSur, thanks to the support of the Global Methane Hub (GMH) and Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). This first meeting marked the launch of the program focused on 10 countries in the region: Belize, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Grenada, Mexico, Peru, Saint Lucia and Uruguay, with the aim of generating an exchange of knowledge, establishing new connections, promoting learning, as well as encouraging the development of successful experiences for the reduction of methane emissions in the waste sector.
The event was an interesting instance that combined theory and practice, including the exchange of experiences on mitigation actions in the sector, presentations by public policy and private sector experts, as well as field visits to highlight projects in operation that are reducing emissions in the sector in the region. The workshop also examined relevant aspects of financing for project design and implementation.
