Sign up for the Home Composting Program in Belize

The Recycle Organics Program is heading to Belize to initiate a Home Composting program, as part of its commitment to reducing methane emissions from the waste sector and increasing climate resilience in the country.

With the support of Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), and in partnership with the Belize Solid Waste Management Authority through the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change, the Recycle Organics Program will launch a Home Composting program in Belize, starting the week of August 26.

As part of the event, the Recycle Organics team will be visiting different communities across the country to hand out 200 composting bins and equipment to locals who sign up to participate in the program. Additionally, the team will present the program to local authorities and community leaders throughout the week.

The Home Composting program is part of a broader effort by the Recycle Organics program in the country, which aims to add an organic waste chapter into Belize’s National Solid Waste Management Policy, Strategy and Plan, creating significant environmental, economic and social benefits. Technical support provided by the Recycle Organics program will be developed in close collaboration with the Belize Solid Waste Management Authority (BSWaMA) to ensure the resulting organic waste chapter integrated into Belize’s National Solid Waste Management Policy, Strategy and Plan is ambitious, as well as attainable and realistic.
